TRAINING EXPERIENCE Sheraton Subang Hotel Malaysia (May –August 2008) MANAGEMENT INTERNSHIP During this period I not only obtained exposure in the Finance, Sales and Marketing Departments, but also learned the complex operations of the hotel industry. This involved attending meetings, observing management practice, as well as being given duties to perform. Crowne Plaza Mutiara, Kuala Lumpur (October – November 2006) TRAINING IN FOOD AND BEVERAGE This was conducted through the Banquet, Coffee house and Beverage Departments. The training involved the arrangements of meetings, seminars, weddings and parties, under the supervision of the manager and the respective departmental supervisors. From this I gained invaluable experience in time management and the importance of accurate communication between departments involved, so as to ensure the smooth running of operations. Holiday Villa Hotel, Subang (April – June 2006) GENERAL INDUSTRIAL TRAINING This encompasses Housekeeping as well as Food and Beverage. It showed me the importance of every level of service, including the seemingly trivial that we often take for granted. I learned that all aspects of management are intricately intertwined and each aspect in itself helps facilitate the smooth running of an establishment. FINAL YEAR PROJECTS • A study to evaluate tourists’ perception of 4 and 5 star hotels, and its impact on the tourism industry in Pakistan. • Managing the college owned restaurant. In this capacity, I had to handle table bookings, cost control as well as customer complaints and suggestions. • Event management. The college’s sales and marketing department organized a large food exhibition in which the students were required to liaise with the exhibitors and sponsors. An event of massive proportion like this needed much cooperation and planning with all concerned i.e. the students as well as the participants. It was a challenging experience.
