Me and Shilo the wonder-dog

This is me with one of my favourite patients, who I grew very fond of!

Her name is Shilo, when she first came into the clinic, she was quite overweight and had been vomiting for several days, after various blood tests she was diagnosed with severe pancreatitis. After routine treatment with antibiotics, intravenous fluids and nil by mouth for a few days she began to get better.

However, after a week she started to get sick again and we ended up performing an exploratory laparotomy and found that some of her pancreas was necrotic. After removing part of her pancreas she recovered fairly well but over the coming weeks she developed diabetes also!

After a very long stabilisation period she gradually got back to her normal crazy and lively self. Th e story doesn't end there though....

She then developed severe cataracts. As she is such a lively and energetic dog, she managed to traumatise both her eyes and we ended up having to remove them BOTH!!!

She is one of the happiest dogs I know and continues to enjoy life to the full despite all her medical dramas!
