Culturally much of Ugandan society still holds a medieval view about those afflicted with disability. A family which produces a child afflicted by any sort of illness/disability will most likely be ostracized from the community, being labeled that they have angered spirits or that the family is cursed. The disabled suffer the worst, are kept in the backyard, often becoming victims of neglect, beatings and outright discrimination.
